A great celebration with abundant food and drinks happened in the
town of the Madman.
He was invited, of course, and the celebration was
supposed to last for one month.
They all wanted to eat and drink
unceasingly but a curious fact was that when the Madman asked for food,
he would say:
" Please, give me very little, very little."
This
expression made people laughed a lot. In an occasion they brought the
Madman near the king because the king wanted to have fun.
And the king
said: " Nobody can be as crazy as this person refusing food."
He then
asked that his plate and the Madman's plate were brought with abundant
meat and condiments. And the Madman said: " No, please, I will not eat."
Then, the king asked for more meat brought in the Madman's plate but he
kept insisting: " No, please, I will not eat."
And the king concluded
that the man was completely crazy. And said: " In name of this poor
lunatic, we will extend the celebration with more food and drinks
completely free."
When the Madman knew, he escaped from the city and went into the fields,
feeding on raw vegetables, roots, fruits and seeds. While the
townspeople were laughing about him.
Three months passed and then they were hit by a plague. The king died of
heart failure and many other persons with different diseases of the
liver, blood and heart. The situation seemed like a curse.
Finally the
whole city was sick but the Madman was the only one who did not.
People
thought that the Madman had put a curse on them and they looked for him
and asked him: " How come that we are sick and you are well. Besides,
you have not eaten our delicious food and you refused our abundance."
And he answered: " I did nothing to you and I wish that nothing bad
would have happened to you. You were the ones who poisoned yourselves."
And they answered: " You refused our food, you are mad and that is your
great evil."
And it happened that all the people got sick and died. But
the Madman was the only one who survived.
