Some learned men were together discussing about life and death,
then they went into more complicated subjects talking about eternity and
started to congratulate each other, saying:
" We are eternal and when our body dies we will be like the caterpillar
becoming butterfly."
Then, they heard a big laugh, it came from the man named Madman, who started
to laugh and laugh saying:
" You have thought so much that you have
become eternal butterflies, but I would rather be caterpillar than
becoming butterfly for all eternity.
Why do you pretend to be eternal? Don't you know
that men are already made as animals and their nature is mortal
and only those who have gotten, not by virtue, but by grace, the Love of
the Creator, then, they will have spirit and could hope for eternal
life.
The animal soul may die and embody but their destination is not
eternity, while the one who has soul and spirit is able to faithfully be
in the paths of the Creator. But, you butterflies, boast too much, and
your nature does not seem to be spiritual."
When the learned men heard this, they answered: " You are mad and you do
not know what you are talking about."
And the Madman replied: " I may be mad because I have lost the reason
because of Love of God but you are butterflies or better said, another
type of madmen, dreaming about becoming owners of eternity."
